Dr Sandeep Mohanan is an Interventional Cardiologist who has been practicing Medicine with a focused interest in cardiovascular sciences since 2012.  After his interventional training from Calicut Medical College, since 2014 he is actively working in the field of interventional cardiology

He had joined MBBS at Calicut Government Medical College in 2002 after securing the Kerala state 2nd rank and was  the Best Allrounder of the batch in 2008.  In the same year he cleared the AIIMS national exam in the first attempt securing a national 5th rank and joined for MD Internal Medicine. In 2011 he received the 1st rank Gold medal award for MD Internal Medicine from AIIMS. In 2012 he joined DM Cardiology back to his alma-mater at Calicut Medical College after securing the Kerala state 1st rank in DM super-specialty entrance examinations. He received the 1st rank Gold medal award for DM Cardiology in 2014. In 2018 he underwent a focused training in complex intervention's after an invitation from Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, USA which is one of the highest volume centers in the United States. 

 Subsequently post cardiology he received multiple awards and recognitions in the field of Cardiology, including 1st prize national winner of Young Scholar award for the best brains in Cardiology(2014), 1st prize Kerala state award for Young Investigator Award for Best Original Research Paper (2014) and  1st prize national winner for A V Gandhi Award for Excellence in Cardiology (2015). In 2017 he cleared the MRCP UK examinations (London).

Dr. Sandeep Mohanan individually performs around 1000 coronary angiograms and around 250-300 radial/femoral angioplasties per year as primary operator(including coronary and peripheral). This includes complex PCIs, CTOs, Left main disease etc. He also performs pacemaker implantations, ICD implantations, ASD /PDA device closures, Balloon mitral valvotomy(BMV), Balloon Aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) etc. In 2018 he started the first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation(TAVI) program in a Medical College in North Kerala. In addition, he directly supervises more than 7500 echocardiograms and TMT reports per year.

He has several publications and has made several presentations in the state, national and international forum. His papers have been published in many reputed journals including CHEST journal, Radiation Protection Dosimetry, Indian Heart Journal, Heart Asia journal, Journal of India College of Cardiology, Cardiology in the Young, Heart India journal, European heart journal, Catheterisation Cadiovascular Interventions journal etc., to mention a few prominent journals.

Dr. Sandeep is our senior consultant cardiologist joined us in 2015. He has worked at Metro International Cardiac Centre, MVR Cancer & Research Centre as Onco-cardiologist, KMCT Medical College as Chief of Cardiology and Director of Cardiac Cathlab.  In 2017 he was appointed as one of the youngest Head of the Departments in Superspecialty at a Medical College (KMCT) and he still continues to hold that post.
