Role of the Dietician

Any patient after a heart attack or after undergoing a going a cardiac procedure would ask 1 single question to all his doctor – “What should I eat from now onwards”. It’s important to understand that a single diet chart cannot fulfil the requirements of the entire society.

It needs to be adjusted for various allergies, desires and socio-cultural practices. The question of “what oil to use?”, “how much sugar to use?” “can I eat chicken or egg?” – each of these needs to be answered. The importance of diet control for some patients is as important as diet supplementation for some patients.

A 75-yearold heart attack patient cannot be forced to be strict on diet and salt control which can lead to bad health and further heart attack eventually. Each personalized diet chart needs to be reviewed and corrected by the cardiologist in charge
